Brew U: French Press Cold Brew Method Recipe
Enjoy a smooth, less acidic cold brew with Lancaster County Coffee Roasters' Cold Brew Blend, crafted specifically for cold brewing. Using the French press method, you can easily make a café-quality drink at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces of coarsely ground coffee (Lancaster County Coffee Roasters' Cold Brew Blend recommended)
- 3 cups of cold water (filtered or bottled for best results)
Equipment:
- A French press
- Spoon for stirring
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Coffee
Coarsely grind 2 ounces of coffee. Lancaster County Coffee Roasters’ Cold Brew Blend is ideal, but any of their coffees will work for a delicious cold brew. -
Combine Coffee and Water
Add the ground coffee to the French press carafe. Pour in 3 cups of cold water, ensuring all the grounds are fully saturated. -
Stir and Submerge
Gently stir the mixture to combine. Press the plunger down just enough to submerge the grounds under the water, but don’t press it all the way down. This prevents the coffee grounds from getting trapped in the filter. -
Steep in the Refrigerator
Place the French press in the refrigerator and let the coffee steep for 12 to 24 hours. A longer steep time results in a stronger, more robust flavor. -
Filter the Coffee
After steeping, slowly press the plunger down to filter the coffee and separate the grounds. -
Serve and Enjoy
Pour your cold brew concentrate into a glass. Enjoy it straight, over ice, or customize it with cream, milk or a milk substitute, and your favorite sweetener.
Pro Tips for Cold Brew Success:
- Experiment with Strength: If you prefer a stronger flavor, use more coffee or steep longer.
- Storage: Store your cold brew concentrate in the fridge for up to a week.
-
Flavor Upgrades: Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, or flavored syrups for a creative twist.
