Brew U: Classic Mason Jar Cold Brew Method

Lancaster County Coffee Roasters’ Cold Brew Blend is crafted for a smooth, less acidic taste, making it perfect for cold brew enthusiasts. Using the Mason jar method, you can easily make delicious cold brew at home. Follow these simple steps for a refreshing cup every time!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces of coarsely ground coffee (Lancaster County Coffee Roasters’ Cold Brew Blend recommended)
  • 3 cups of cold water (filtered or bottled preferred)

Equipment:

  • A large Mason jar with a lid
  • Cheesecloth or coffee filter
  • Measuring cup

Instructions:

  1. Measure and Grind
Measure 2 ounces of coffee beans and grind them coarsely. Lancaster County Coffee’s Cold Brew Blend is ideal, but any of their coffees work well for cold brew.

  2. Combine Coffee and Water
Add the coarsely ground coffee to a large Mason jar. Pour in 3 cups of cold water, ensuring all the coffee grounds are fully saturated. Use high-quality water for the best flavor.

  3. Mix and Cover
Stir the coffee and water mixture thoroughly. Seal the jar with its lid to prevent any outside flavors from mixing in.

  4. Steep in the Refrigerator
Place the jar in the refrigerator and let it steep for 12 to 24 hours. The longer it steeps, the richer and more robust the flavor will be.

  5. Strain the Coffee
After steeping, strain the cold brew concentrate by pouring it through a cheesecloth or coffee filter into a measuring cup. This removes the grounds and leaves you with smooth, concentrated cold brew.

  6. Serve and Enjoy
Serve your cold brew concentrate over ice. Add cream, milk, or a milk substitute, and sweeten to taste if desired. For a stronger flavor, enjoy it straight over ice.

Tips for the Perfect Cold Brew:

  • Experiment with Ratios: Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio to find your perfect strength.
  • Storage: Store your cold brew concentrate in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Custom Flavors: Add a splash of vanilla extract, cinnamon, or a flavored syrup for a creative twist.

This simple method delivers café-quality cold brew every time, perfect for warm days or anytime you need a smooth, refreshing coffee!
